The underdog has done it. VCU fans go streaking, dance on tables, paint yellow and black everywhere and cannot wait for the final four. This has been a Cinderella story since the beginning. Looking at March Madness brackets, VCU was not even put down in dark inc. Nobody would have believed they would get this far and most certainly not that they would kick out the top pick of the tournament Kansas in a game that looked like the roles were reversed completely. VCU’s basketball team is planning to go to the Final Four in Houstan, Texas to take on another surprise participant, Butler.
When Kansas went up against VCU in the semi-finals they should have been prepared for a tough game after hearing what happened to Florida State. Instead they kept up their cockiness, led by their team captain. During the pregame captains meeting Rams senior captain, Joey Rodriguez, was told that they have put on a good show but that “the run ends here.” If Kansas had been smart, they would not have made this comment, but instead gone out to crush the team, shake hands afterwards and say something along the lines of ‘great run.’ When the buzzer went off and the scoreboard read 71-61 for VCU, Kansas hopefully realized this lesson.
