The New York Jets are planning their new roster for the next season on Monday. Right tackle Damien Woody will no longer be on it because him, as well as nose tackle Kris Jenkins, defensive end Vernon Gholston and linebacker Jason Taylor were released, league sources stated. Both parties expected the decisions due to the fact that Jenkins and Woody are high-salaried, older players who are just coming off main injuries. Rumors have it that Taylor will retire and that Gholston was a bad choice from the beginning on. At this point in time there was no comment from the Jets about any of the moves.
The 33-year-old Woody was ready to make approximately $3.35 million in 2011, after coming back from his recovery of his Achilles tendon. Even though he is upset about being released he is grateful for the time and the opportunities he had while being a part of the New York team. “I kind of had an inkling this could happen,” he said. “I’m no fool. As you get older, you understand the business side. I understand my salary-cap situation, age and injury. I don’t have any complaints. My time here was priceless. I was part of something special.”
