PITTSBURGH — Ben Roethlisberger knelt on the turf and buried his head in an AFC championship shirt.
The Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the New York Jets in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday to go to the Super Bowl. The Steelers beat the team from New York 24-19, marking quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s third championship in six years. Just as excited as his team, he also does not forget about how hard it was to get to this point. “Shoot, any time you get to the Super Bowl, it feels good,” he said. “I don’t care what you’re going through or what’s going on. We put a lot of stuff behind us early and found a way.”
Their opponents in the Super Bowl game will be the Green Bay Packers who are 2 1/2–point favorites. They are going to challenge the Steelers with a versatile attack lead by both quarterback and running back. But Roethlisberger is not the least bit intimidated. He has been in the situation many times before and he is confident in his team’s ability. They go out together and will go for everything. “It’s not always pretty with us,” he said, “but we do the job. We have a lot of tenacity. We have a don’t quit attitude and mentality. Everybody is just always there for each other.”
