“We said, ‘Why not us?’ Why don’t we come back sometimes?’” Sharks goalie Antero Niittymaki said after the Sharks came back from behind to win 5-4 in a shootout versus the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. “Three goals down in this building, that’s a pretty good comeback.” The Sharks were behind most of the games but were successful to score the game winner after one of the Flyers’ goals in the last seconds of overtime was not accepted as valid as it did not cross the line in time.
That goal was supposed to be the deciding one and not only the Flyers believed the game was over at that point in time. “I heard the horn, but it’s always a little late,” Niittymaki stated about Mike Richards’ shot and goal. “I broke my stick. I thought it was a goal. It was once of those nights where the puck bounces everywhere. I’m happy we won, but the puck really wasn’t bouncing our way.”
