Clay Matthews breaks the family losing streak. The 24-year-old linebacker is the first in his family to win the Super Bowl. Usually this would not mean much to many people because nobody in my family has ever won the Super Bowl either. Looking at his family on the other hand it becomes obvious what is meant and why winning 31-25 with the Packers over the Steelers on Sunday night was so important. Matthews father played for the Atlanta Falcons and Cleveland Browns for 19 seasons, while his uncle played for the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans. Adding to those stats – he is also in the Hall-of-fame. But what both never accomplished was winning the trophy. “It means a great deal, obviously,” Matthews said. “We haven’t had too much success with the Super Bowl. Thirty-eight combined years between my uncle and my father. I’m two years in … Super Bowl champion. So it means a great deal.”

His intuition and extensive study of film material was what contributed heavily to leaving the field as winners. He forced a fumble on Rashard Mendenhall, Steelers running back, in the forth quarter, which led to a Packers touchdown. He stated that he saw it coming. “It’s really film work and preparation,” Matthews said.” I had a feeling that play was going to come. I was telling our defense to be prepared for it.”
