On Wednesday night Red Wings player, Nicklas Lidstrom, scored his first hat trick in his 1,442 career game. “I hadn’t gotten one in the past. I knew had a lot of two-goal games where I had chances, the other team would pull the goalie … the same thing happened last night. I had 2 goals, we were up and they pulled the goalie. Danny Cleary had had an empty netter and someone lifted his stick before he had the chance to put it in, but he got it in the corner and I put it in.”

Lidstrom is the first player that was born and trained in Europe to ever lead a team as the captain to the Stanley Cup. Throughout his career he has collected six Norris trophies, four Stanley Cups; he was on the NHL First All-Star Team nine times and appeared in 10 NHL All-Star Games. “He’s done everything else,” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock stated after the game. “Might as well do that.”
