Kye Allums always knew he was different but after researching on the Internet the George Washington NCAA I basketball player knows for sure. Kye has been playing on the GW women’s basketball team but from now on wants to be addressed as male instead of female. Friends that did not understand in the beginning are more receptive and understanding after he gave his explanation.

“At first I didn’t understand, and then he explained that sex is how you’re born and gender is how you identify yourself. Then I started to understand.” A George Washington teammate said about Kye Allums. As a junior guard and the first NCAA I basketball player that openly admits he is not who people think he is Allums will continue his collegiate carrier on the female team. According to NCAA rules this change is legitimate if he does not take testosterone to enhance his male features.

This is no problem to Allums, who feels much more comfortable having come out to his team, his coach and to everybody else. “I probably naturally have more (testosterone) than some of the guys on the guys’ team. If I get surgery, it doesn’t affect my play, it doesn’t enhance anything, I’m just taking something off my body, like if I lost a finger.” Allums and his team will experience what other teams think about his coming out starting in two weeks during opening night against Green Bay in Minneapolis.
