When you think about a winning streak you usually think along the lines of ‘Yess! We are 3-0 in this season’. You usually assume that once you get to 3 wins you are doing pretty well and nobody can touch you. That 3 game margin happened a long time ago. And by long we are talking about April 2008. The UConn women’s basketball team has not lost a game since. Let’s count – That is more than two years of fans celebrating non-stop in the stands. More than two years, recording 80 wins in a row! What goes on in your mind when you are part of a team that is facing them next? Do you still take it as a challenge or do you look at it, as UConn is unbeatable so it’s fine to lose?

The problem is that when you get people’s expectations up to the point that they take a win as a given, appreciation and praise becomes rare. ‘It’s what the Huskies do, they win’. Going back to that 3 game winning streak always attracts more attention because it can change so quickly. As a fan, spectator, coach or player these short periods of success are treasured because in their minds they could end any day. For that reason the Huskies have not been in the center of media’s attention. On the other hand this might change in the rare case that they actually lose a game.
