Roberto Alomar is the second Puerto Rican in history to ever get elected in the Hall of Fame. On Wednesday, January 5th, the world of baseball voted him in with 90 percent, a number that exceeded the required 75 percent by far. The second baseman, who played in the 1990’s is known for his contribution to the Toronto Blue Jays two World Series championships and for his all-around play.
His induction was very positively commented by fans and by experts. Sports historian, Jossie Alvarado, stated, “Roberto was a natural, a champion, a superstar. He worked at it by being … disciplined and respecting the game.” He hopes that the news of his induction is going to give the island a reason and source of pride. The New York Mets player and Puerto Rican, Alex Cintron, explained that Alomar motivated him. “For me it makes me proud because when we played I was very young and he was already a star. He was my idol.”
