Abby Wambach is the new United States Soccer Federation’s Female Player of the Year 2010. This is the fourth time she has earned the award but according to her it means more than any of the ones before. This is due to the fact that she came off an injury and was still able to stand out as a player and a person. “Having had the injury and major surgery, it feels good to know I can come back and still play well enough to win those personal accolades.”
The forward from Pittsford had to miss the last World Cup because of a fractured leg. For that matter she has also explained that even though these awards are high honors she would rather trade them with being able to take part in the worldwide competition. “For me though, I’d rather give back every award I’ve ever won for a World Cup championship.”
Let’s hope that she will be able to take part in it next year, when the World Cup comes to Germany.
